Sacred Hearts Academy grades five and six Digital Media Club students were mentored by photographer and Academy parent, Harold Watanabe, during a live photo shoot for Eggs N Things in Waikiki on December 12th, 2018.

During the photo shoot chefs brought out about eight onolicious breakfast dishes such as the All Fresh Fruit Rainbow Pancakes (Hawaiian Macadamia Nut Pancakes with Fresh Bananas, Strawberries, Kiwi, Blueberries, Pineapple, and Papaya) and the Plantation Pineapple Pork Chops with island fresh eggs and sweet potato medley.

Mr. Watanabe taught the students about set design concepts and how to use different props to help with lighting. By using a powerful photo editing app, Snapseed, students were able to bring their photos to the next level. Sacred Hearts Academy extends a heartfelt mahalo to Mr. Watanabe and the friendly and supportive staff at Eggs N Things for opening their doors to our girls for this hands-on experience!

C is for Coding and Computer Savvy

The Academy’s students not only use technology daily, but are learning to create technology in their coding classes. These classes are empowering, rewarding and just plain fun!          

The coding curriculum begins in the first grade and continues through High School. Along the way, students fine-tune their programming fundamentals skills, tackle web and mobile development and design and delve into robotics. The first graders practice their coding skills with their “minibots” – Dash and Dot, programming them to move around, play music and more.
 

Those in middle school program animations and create video games. In the High School, the coders use industry-standard programs and understand the role technology has in shaping the world. With society’s every-increasing reliance on technology, it is imperative that the Academy’s students develop the skills essential for future success.

Summer Red Carpet Event

The Sacred Hearts Academy iPads For Success, Claymation 1, Claymation 2, and Lights! Camera! Action! summer school classes are looking forward to their Red Carpet Event on Thursday, July 9th, 2015! Have some spare time? Stop on by the Lower School Library and catch a student made movie - complete with ice cream sundaes for the families of the movie-making students!

Success at the 5th Annual Red Carpet Event

The Digital Media Club held its 5th Annual Red Carpet Event in the auditorium on Friday, April 17. The Digital Media Club is an after school club for students in grades 4-6.  At the Red Carpet Event students showcased their top 20 videos that they produced this school year, including four videos that received statewide recognition in video competitions among 1000 other entries.  

The goal of Digital Media Club is to produce movies to help make our community a better place.   About 150 attendees enjoyed family fun at the photobooth, free popcorn, and never-before-seen student movie premieres. At the end, guests voted for their favorite movie, and the winner of the People’s Choice Award was 4th Grader Samantha Europa’s music video titled “Gold.”

Digital Media Club Members Roll Out Red Carpet

The Lower School’s Digital Media Club (DMC), an afterschool activity for students in grades four to six, hosted the fifth annual Red Carpet Event on April 17 in the Auditorium.

About 150 attendees enjoyed using the photo booth, eating popcorn and seeing the premieres of student-produced movies.

The 16 club members showcased the 20 best videos they produced this school year, including four that received statewide recognition in competition.

At the end of the night, guests voted for their favorite movie, with the “People’s Choice Award” going to fourth grader Samantha Europa for her music video titled “Gold.”

The goal of the DMC, advised by Laurel Oshiro, is to create movies and videos to help make the community a better place, and the Club’s productions can be viewed at http://digitalmediaclubhawaii.blogspot.com.

Digital Media Club visits Hawaiian Humane Society for Project Research

The Grades 4-6 Digital Media Club went to visit the Hawaiian Humane Society to learn more about ways to support and care for animals in Hawaii. They interviewed and filmed the volunteers and are working on producing commercials about adopting pets, caring for them, donating, and volunteer opportunities. 

The students enjoyed spending time with the animals and learning more about ways to help. They were also excited to donate some blankets, bedding, puppy pads, dog bowls, and dog shampoo that day.

Digital Media Club Meets Professionals

The grades 4-6 Digital Media Club was excited to meet some professional videographers from Isle Media Hawaii, LLC. They learned how to work the video camera, the different types of equipment, and what it takes to become a professional videographer. The best advice that they were given was to get their Bachelor’s Degree and to not be afraid to take risks to pursue what they love to do. By the end of the workshop, almost all of the students

raised their hands that they wanted to pursue a career in videography.
