A Prayer For A New School Year

Lord, we thank you for the unique gifts of every new and returning Sacred Hearts Academy student and their families as we transition into a new school year.

Fill each of our girls with fresh enthusiasm and a heart that is excited to learn and grow.

Cover them with your enduring love, give them confidence and grace, and equip them with the ability to persevere.

Bless our teachers with wisdom, understanding and a heart to serve as we embark on this journey together. Amen. #GoLancers #SacredHeartsAcademy

A Thanksgiving Prayer

Psalm 9:2-3 tells us "I will praise you, LORD, with all my heart;
I will declare all your wonderous deeds. I will delight and rejoice in you;
I will sing hymns to your name, Most High."
As we celebrate Thanksgiving with family and friends and enter the Advent and Christmas liturgical seasons, let’s remember and thank God for all He has provided us.

We give thanks to God for grace He gives each one of us.

We give thanks to God for loving families, caring friends, and welcoming homes in a country that values gratitude, generosity, and service to one another.

We give thanks to God for the gift of Catholic education, especially for Sacred Hearts Academy and the mission of the Congregation of the Sisters of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary.

We give thanks to God for our vocation of teaching God’s children alongside all of our colleagues, an amazing team of dedicated educators and administrators who work together to help our students grow closer to Him.

We wish safe travels for all who are going to see loved ones near and far over the long weekend. And we leave our Academy 'ohana with this prayer of Thanksgiving. Have a truly blessed weekend.
Father, all powerful,Your gifts of love are countlessAnd your goodness infinite;As we we come before you on Thanksgiving DayWith gratitude for your kindness,Open our hearts to have concernFor every man, woman, and child,So that we may share your gifts in loving service.Through our Lord Jesus Christ your Son,Who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,One God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Fifth Grade Retreats Together

The fifth graders explored the concept, gleaned from Winnie the Pooh and friends, that “A Friend Is the Nicest Thing That You Have,” the theme of their Class Retreat on August 31.

With assistance from members of the High School Living In Faith Experience (LIFE) team and Sr. Katherine Francis Miller, '57, ss.cc., who organized the day, the 42 fifth graders delved into all things related to “friendship,” including how to bring out the qualities each appreciates in her friends. They also explored the individual characteristics needed to be a good friend to others.

To reinforce these concepts, the students participated in activities that required them to work together and support one another to reach the end goal.

This was the first Class Retreat experience for the students, and they enjoyed building their friendships with peers and being “mentored” by the LIFE team.

When Life Gives You Lemons

"When life gives you lemons..."

The Academy's Senior Class women learned to complete this phrase as they spent their final overnight retreat at St. Anthony Retreat Center on April 23 to 24.  The 120 young women enjoyed quality time with one another thanking God for the blessings of the past years, rejoicing in the present and looking forward to the adventures beyond high school.

Senior advisor, Leilani Asuncion Tagupa, '91 and the retreat team led by Sr. Katherine Francis Miller, '57, prepared a memorable slate of activities to assure each young woman of her special place in the hearts and minds of her peers, her teachers, and all who shared life with her at the Academy.  The blessings of the Hearts of Jesus and Mary be on each one!

Lower School students started the week with “A Trip Down Memory Lane,” sharing their favorite memory of the Academy and expressing why they enjoy attending a Catholic School.

The week’s activities for grades seven to 12 culminated on January 29 with the annual LIFE Mass, before the High School students, attired in class shirts and sneakers, set off for the traditional LIFE Walk to Palolo Valley District Park where the students participated in fun activities focused on class bonding and enjoying LIFE!
