Starting College, Early That Is!

Sacred Hearts Academy Early College Program
Chaminade University, Fall 2018
Sacred Hearts Academy is again offering a program that allows students to get a “jump start” on the next phase of their studies by starting college early! This fall, Chaminade University (CU) joins Leeward Community College (LCC) in the school’s “Early College Program” (ECP) efforts.

Under the program, qualifying High School students enroll in select collegiate courses while completing their regular curriculum studies. This process earns a “dual credit” that applies to their High School graduation requirements while receiving college credits in the process.

Eight Academy students are currently enrolled in one of the many ECP courses, such as World Civilization, World Religions and Introduction to Expository Writing, which meets weekly on the campus of Chaminade University. In these courses, taught by CU faculty, the Academy participants are integrated with their collegiate students.

This semester, the Academy has 17 students enrolled in LCC’s ECP offering, Psychology, held on the Academy’s campus. During the spring semester, Academy students entered in the program will enroll in ICS101: Digital Tools for the Info World

Eden Arthur, Agnes Brown, Ashley
Zeidler and Kaitlyn White on the campus
of Chaminade University
Only Academy students in grades 10 to 12 are eligible to take ECP courses, and College Counselor Randy Fong coordinates the Academy’s efforts in this area. In addition to earning dual credits, ECP has many additional benefits, including:

  • Advanced classes not offered on campus, such as Chinese, can be taken.
  • Early college courses strengthen transcripts and help applications stand out.
  • These classes help prepare students for the rigors of collegiate-level coursework.

Academy Supports Kapi'olani Medical Center

August 10th, 2018
Kapiolani Medical Center 12th Annual Radiothon
Sacred Hearts Academy was a proud sponsor of Hawaii Pacific Health's 12th Annual Kapiolani Medical Center for Women & Children's Radiothon! Current #GirlsGotGrit students paired with Kimi Tokunaga, '18, Sacred Hearts Academy and GGG alumna, teamed up to raise money to support Kapi'olani Medical Center's fundraising effort on Friday, August 10th. Following a short orientation, led by Emily Torres, former Academy Development Director, the student volunteers learned the ins-and-outs of manning the phone banks while KSSK broadcast the Radiothon and interviews live over the airwaves. The ladies were most excited to catch up and visit with Dr. Angela Pratt, current OB-GYN Chief and 2018 #SacredHeartsAcademy #GirlsGotGrit Mentor. Congratulations ladies on helping raise over $285K in support of Children's Miracle Network Hospitals!
