Digital Media Club Members Roll Out Red Carpet

The Lower School’s Digital Media Club (DMC), an afterschool activity for students in grades four to six, hosted the fifth annual Red Carpet Event on April 17 in the Auditorium.

About 150 attendees enjoyed using the photo booth, eating popcorn and seeing the premieres of student-produced movies.

The 16 club members showcased the 20 best videos they produced this school year, including four that received statewide recognition in competition.

At the end of the night, guests voted for their favorite movie, with the “People’s Choice Award” going to fourth grader Samantha Europa for her music video titled “Gold.”

The goal of the DMC, advised by Laurel Oshiro, is to create movies and videos to help make the community a better place, and the Club’s productions can be viewed at http://digitalmediaclubhawaii.blogspot.com.

College Courses Are Coming to the Academy!

Students have enrolled in “History 151-World History” this coming semester, marking the beginning of a bold program to offer college credit courses.  Courses are taught by LCC college professors and administered through LCC – all on our Sacred Hearts Academy campus.

Our students will be better prepared for college, earn college credits at a fraction of regular college fees, enjoy  additional curricular offerings, bolster college applications and start accumulating college credits, helping them graduate college on time or even early.

Counselors are working with students and their families to take advantage of this wonderful opportunity.

Artists Work to Ensure No Bowls Are Empty

This year, Academy students, under the guidance of Kaycie Baltunado, participated in the 2015 Empty Bowl Project, hosted by the Hawai’i Potters Guild and Hawai’i Meals on Wheels and aimed at fighting hunger in the community.

Professional artists and students from Iolani School, Mid-Pacific Institute, Punahou School and the Academy, including Baltunado’s Ceramics II students who contributed over 200 pieces, made ceramic bowls which were donated to the Project.

On April 11 at Our Kaka’ako, the donated bowls were sold and, then, filled with soup provided by restaurants across Oahu, including Side Street Inn and Mariposa at Neiman Marcus.
