Sacred Hearts Academy/Saint Louis School Captures National Grand Championship

Sacred Hearts Academy and Saint Louis School combined to achieve the prestigious title of Grand National Champion at the JAMZ SCHOOL CHEER National Championships held on February 22-23, 2019 at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. 

Saint Louis School joined with the 2-time ILH and State Competitive Cheer Champion Sacred Hearts Academy to claim this coveted award. With 72 teams vying for the National Title, the Sacred Hearts Academy/Saint Louis squad was crowned the overall Grand Champion Title by having the highest total and overall combined score.

*The team of Logan Agcaoili (11), Kammiee Ardo (9), Cayla Cabanban (10), Alissa De Smet (10), Lexy Freitas (11), Odyn Kane (11), Kayla Oka (11), Derrick Okamoto (11), Mina O'Reilly (12), Tristan Racpan (11), Jacelyn Tanavasa (9), Megan Valente (12), Coach Cadey Vakauta and Coach Gail Gushikuma also captured the following titles:

*Best Stunt Sequence Award
*National Champions COED Sideline Performance
*OVERALL National Champions Sideline Performance
*National Champions Level 3 Coed Division
*OVERALL Level 3 Champions
along with the coveted GRAND NATIONAL CHAMPION title.  

Coach Cadey Vakauta was emotional and overwhelmed with the results explaining how this team came along way in such a short time saying "we are so thrilled that our team worked so hard and realized our motto of HARD WORK BEATS TALENT". She further expressed her gratitude saying "we are honored and humble to represent our respective schools and Hawaii in this way. I am so proud of our team to have had this experience".  Coach Gail Gushikuma, a longtime cheer coach, felt truly blessed to see the fruits of their labor come to fruition.  

The team is scheduled to arrive in Honolulu on Hawaiian Airlines Flt. 17 at
6:15AM on Tuesday, February 26, 2019.

Exhibiting Espirit De Corps

Many eyes were on Sacred Hearts Academy's Air Riflery team this past week since the Academy was competing as the defending State Champion. After sitting on edge for seemingly forever, we received the news! 

After all shots were fired, the Lancers held a three-point lead over their closest competitor – only to find out that there was a shooter’s error in not closing the bolt after loading her rifle. In final tabulation, the penalty was 12 points, and Sacred Hearts lost the title. 

What happened afterwards made the entire school ‘ohana proud because our team rose to heights of stellar character. According to one trusted observer, no one person received the glory, nor the blame, as they were of “ONE HEART.” This observer described what she saw as “ESPRIT DE CORPS,” usually defined as a spirit existing in the members of a group and inspiring enthusiasm, devotion and strong regard for the honor of the group. It usually defines something that cannot be measured by scores or acknowledged by a trophy.

When this observer shared her perspective with our Head of School, Betty White, her heart and the Academy's collective 'ohana burst with pride because the soul of our team emerged over the quantifiable scores.

We are ever so proud of our persistent and courageous Lancers.

Cheering For Top Title

The members of the Academy's Varsity and Intermediate Cheerleading squads have been hard at work, practicing and preparing routines since the beginning of this past summer.

Their dedication has paid dividends - the Varsity currently holds first place in the Interscholastic League of Honolulu, and the Intermediate scored consistent competition finishes in the top two.

Buoyed by this momentum, the Academy's cheerleaders will vie for the League Championship TONIGHT at Kamehameha Schools. Best of luck ladies! #GoLancers #SacredHeartsAcademy

Girls On The Run 5K Fun Run

On Saturday, April 22^nd, the inaugural Sacred Hearts Academy Girls on the Run team and their “running buddy” parents successfully completed a 5K fun run, held at Wet ‘N Wild. 

The event involved over 500 participants from around Oahu and included fun activities such as a dance party, yoga, Zumba and the chance to cool off at Wet 'N Wild with free admission to the park after the run.

Eleven Academy girls from grades 3-5, alongside their coaches Carrie Knebel (JK Teacher), Fiona Hayashi (Lower School Counselor) and Riki Wong (Counseling Intern) spent the past 10 weeks training for the run, while also taking part in lessons that inspired the girls to become independent thinkers by teaching problem solving skills and healthy decision making.

Girls on the Run is an international non-profit organization, with over 200 locations across the USA and Canada. Its mission is to inspire girls to be joyful, healthy and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum which creatively integrates running.
