2018 FIRST Robotics Competition Kickoff

The 2018 FIRST Robotics Competition Kickoff event was held today at McKinley HS at 5:30am. This event launches the moment when 3,000+ competing teams worldwide get to see the reveal video of the 2018 FIRST Robotics game. 

The Kickoff event marks the beginning of the design and build season, which lasts a total of 6 weeks. Teams have the opportunity to meet at "local" Kickoffs to compare notes, get ideas, make friends, find mentoring teams, learn the game, pick up the Kickoff Kit from the Kit of Parts, and get geared up for the exciting competition season. 

This year’s game is called “Power Up.” We look forward to cheering on Lancer Robotics Team 2437 this season!

Sacred Hearts Academy 24th Science Symposium for Girls and Inaugural STEM Symposium

Sacred Hearts Academy presents the 24th Science Symposium for Girls on Saturday, February 17 from 7:45 – 11:30 a.m. The Symposium, free and open to girls in grades 5 through 8, will be conducted on the Academy campus, 3253 Waialae Avenue.


The following Saturday, February 24, 7:30 a.m. – 2:00 p.m., the Academy will host an inaugural free STEM Symposium for Girls, grades 9-12, with program speakers from Boeing, CARBON 3D, Facebook, Genentech, and Google. The teen-focused STEM Symposium will address why technology is important and will offer the girls an opportunity to network with employees from top tier technology companies.

The Science Symposium's featured speaker is Dr. Kim Binsted, University of Hawaii Manoa Information and Computer Sciences Department. Dr. Binsted does research on artificial intelligence, human computer interfaces, and long duration of human space exploration.

The Science Symposium program consists of 18 interactive workshops facilitated by local professionals. Workshop leaders include a veterinarian, ophthalmologist, a chef, a team of medical doctors, and a scientific illustrator.

Educating the Heart Through Youth Outreach

Alika Campbell, director of the Waikiki Youth Outreach Center, a service of Hale Kipa,  receives a check for $5000 from the Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Foundation on December 19, 2017.

Through a program entitled “Educating the Heart”, the Foundation partners with schools to teach students about non-profit organizations in Hawaii.  This is the third year that the Junior Theology class, Call to Justice, has worked on a project in collaboration with the Weinberg Foundation in favor of Youth Outreach.  

Juniors Jasmine Policarpio, Agnes Brown and Ashli Sordillia served as leaders of the project called Fast for a Better Tomorrow. The Fast involved 125 Academy students who collectively served over 500  hours of community service with special emphasis on learning about the situation of homeless youth in Honolulu. Students gathered donations of can goods and supplies and to make over 200 first aid and hygiene kits for the center.
