Academy Students Recognized for Academic Achievements

Taryn Wong, senior, was named a semifinalist in the National Merit Scholarship Program (NMSP). The NMSP  is an academic competition for recognition and college scholarships. High school students enter the National Merit Program by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test,  a test which serves as an initial screen of approximately 1.6 million entrants each year. The selection index scores are used to designate a pool of semifinalist who are the highest scorers in each of the 50 states and represents less than  one percent of high school seniors in the state. All semifinalists will complete an online application and fulfill other requirements to qualify as finalists.

In addition to Taryn being selected as a semifinalist, Megan Backus was named Commended Student status based on her high score placing her in the top 5% nationwide and her outstanding potential for academic success.

Ellie Ramirez, also received recognition for her outstanding PSAT scores. She qualified as a National Hispanic Scholar, placing in the top 2.5 % among Hispanic and Latino test takers.
