Guest Speaker Kapono Ciotti

Sacred Hearts Academy faculty spent a dedicated week in professional development and in-service opportunities, all in preparation for a new school year. Kapono Ciotti, Head of Waialae Public Charter School, the Academy’s neighbor here in Kaimuki, left one lingering question in the minds of teachers:

“What gifts do we bring to our students this school year?”

And, now teachers are transferring that question to their young girls. How blessed to start the new school year with each student bringing special and unique gifts to our learning communities!

This is great to see such a strong commitment to professional development and thoughtful preparation for the new school year. Taking time for in-service opportunities really helps educators reflect, grow, and better support their students. Having leaders like Kapono Ciotti share insights also encourages deeper thinking and meaningful discussion among teachers. Reading this reminded me of my own academic journey, where asking the right questions is just as important as finding the answers,. While working on research, I often wondered how many sources for a dissertation are needed to fully explore a topic and support critical thinking, much like educators do when preparing for effective teaching.
