Construction/Traffic Update August 2016

[UPDATE: August 9, 2016 @ 12PM]

Parents and Students:

The road construction work on Waialae Avenue will continue through Friday. However, they will keep the entrance and exit open at all times. Thank you for your patience. A thumbs up for our second day of school!

Aloha,
Betty White

Parents and Students:

The Academy has been alerted that the left turn into 5th Avenue will be open at 2:15 p.m. today. The school ‘begged’ for 2 p.m., but they could not promise.

The work will continue through Tuesday at the intersection of 5th and Waialae. However, there should be no worries about a left lane closure into 5th Avenue from Wednesday-Friday.

Thanks for your patience and cooperation. It was a beautiful first day of school here on campus!

Aloha,
Betty White
Head of School

The Academy has received no further updates on the construction on Waialae Avenue, scheduled to continue this morning. On Friday afternoon, it was indicated that they would consider waiting until 9 a.m. to start. However, a definitive answer has not been received.

Thank you for being attentive throughout the day for any updates we may receive. Any news, impacting pick up time, will be forwarded immediately.

Dear Families:

The Academy does not want to alarm you for the opening days of school, but we have been alerted that there is a gas leak in the school vicinity of Waialae and 5th Avenues.

You may want to allow your family ample time on Monday. Please adhere to the traffic signs and follow the directions of the officers.

We apologize for the vagueness of this memo, but more specific details have not been forwarded to the school as of this time.

Please be attentive to memos from the Academy. As more details are forwarded to us, you will be alerted.

Sincerely,
Betty White
Head of School

Guest Speaker Kapono Ciotti

Sacred Hearts Academy faculty spent a dedicated week in professional development and in-service opportunities, all in preparation for a new school year. Kapono Ciotti, Head of Waialae Public Charter School, the Academy’s neighbor here in Kaimuki, left one lingering question in the minds of teachers:

“What gifts do we bring to our students this school year?”

And, now teachers are transferring that question to their young girls. How blessed to start the new school year with each student bringing special and unique gifts to our learning communities!

First Day Jitter Juice

Have you heard of Jitter Juice

The students in Ms. Knebel's JK Class read "First Day Jitters" by Julie Danneberg and drank Jitter Juice to get rid of the First Day Jitters! Now the girls are ready to tackle a brand new year of learning at Sacred Hearts Academy!
"Have you heard of Jitter Juice? It’s magic and it’s yummy! It makes the butterflies fly away, right out of my tummy! The bubbles in this silly juice will help you not to worry. So grab a cup and drink it up! Hurry! Hurry! Hurry!" - Julie Danneberg

Sit Down Panel With Incoming Seniors

The Sacred Hearts Academy faculty and administration had the week of August 1st to prepare for a new school year.  Many insightful and inspirational presentations and experiences were enjoyed, but none was more delightful than a panel presentation by members of the incoming senior class, facilitated by Student Activities Director, Cleo Eubanks.

Two probing questions produced revealing answers. "What do you intend to do for the student body this year?"

And, the second question:  "One word that describes your experience at Sacred Hearts?"  Answers:  Community, Respect, Pride, Achievement, Inspiring, and Good-Hearted.
