Mayor Kirk Caldwell Visits Sacred Hearts Academy's American Government Class

Mayor Kirk Caldwell Visits Sacred Hearts Academy's American Government Class
The American Government class invited Mayor Kirk Caldwell to come and speak to them on Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2014. Mayor Caldwell won the election for mayor of Honolulu in 2012. Mayor Caldwell was asked to address topics such as the importance of government, issues facing Honolulu, and the upcoming November elections. Students were also allowed to prepare questions for the mayor and he will try to address as many of them as possible during our time together.

The audience brought up questions about Honolulu's rail project, the recent Board of Water Supply billing changes, homeless issues, affordable housing, and how they could be more involved and engaged with projects that the mayor is currently working on.

The class will be completing a reflection assignment on their thoughts of today’s presentation. They will discuss any questions that may have arisen during the mayor's presentation, but did not have the opportunity to ask during the session.

The American Government class is especially grateful to Randy Perreira, father of Katie Perreira ’15, for putting us in touch with the mayor’s office.
