Japanese flower arrangement brings harmony

Three Ikebana sensei from Ikebana International youth educational project team visited the Sacred Hearts Academy campus to share their Ikebana knowledge to our Japanese III students on January 22. The class started with a brief lecture on its history and concept and then students were very fortunate to have opportunity to experience a hands-on Ikebana activity. The structure of a Japanese flower arrangement is usually based on a scalene triangle delineated by three main points, Ten (heaven), Chi(earth), and Jin (man) and this could also mean “HARMONY”. Samurai used to practice Ikebana years ago during the war times and our Ikebana teachers commented that more and more people should practice / learn Ikebana so we will have more harmony in our society.

The Sacred Hearts Academy Leo Club made PGA history with 3 of the youngest Marshals ever at this past weekend’s Sony Open tournament. 7th graders Morgan Candelo and Lucy Gentry, 8th grader Kayla Park, joined Juniors Kennedy Cambra-Cho, Theresa Ginter, and Madison Sharp and their Kamehameha Lions Club sponsors on Saturday and Sunday to assist at the Waialae Golf Course.
