Special Month Promotes Power of Women

From March 20 to 23, the High School Student Council and the “Fem” Club spearheaded the campus effort to celebrate Women’s History Month.

Organizers staged special activities each day to celebrate the power of women and created fliers detailing some of stellar female historical figures. Highlights of the activities included informative workshops by a curator from the Honolulu Museum of Art, a filmmaker and two agents serving with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, (pictured right with Zandrina Cambra, Leah Farias-Ornellas and Clara Ontal) Logan Johnston and Cindy Maglasang.

Sacred Hearts Lancer Robotics Are POWERED UP

Sacred Hearts Academy Lancer Robotics POWERED UP at the Stan Sheriff Center on March 23 and 24 to battle against 36 other schools at this year's  prestigious FRC Hawaii Regional hosted by Friends of Robotics Hawaii.  

Placing 9th out of 37 teams as the quarter finals began, the Lancers performed autonomously, as well as in alliances with groups from the other schools, hailing from across the United States, Chinese Taipei and Japan.  Over 1,200 students were involved in designing and building their human-size robots over a six-week period. 

Congratulations to Waialua High School that won the regional champion and be will heading to the World Championships in Houston in late April.

Celebration of Life for Pua Palakiko Coen, '89

The Coen & Palakiko 'ohana wish to share with their greater Sacred Hearts Academy 'ohana the following news of the passing of Lauleipuaokalani “Pua” Coen, '89, please share with family and friends.

Lauleipuaokalani “Pua” Coen, '89, died peacefully surrounded by family and friends on Sunday March 11, 2018. She was born on July 6, 1971, to Benjamin Hale Palakiko and Aletheia Kahalamapuwana Asimoe (Lau) Palakiko. She is survived by spouse Jonathan Lee Coen, daughter Rachel MLK Coen, brother Francis Moreira, sisters Lauleiliilehua “Leilii” Palakiko and Donna-Marie Palakiko.

She attended Star of the Sea Elementary, graduated from Sacred Hearts Academy, class of 1989, and received her Bachelors degree from Chaminade University.

Pua worked tirelessly to raise her people. Always an advocate, she started her professional career as a paralegal, then applied her investigative skills to work with Veterans before moving into leadership roles in non-profit and with the State. She was an accomplished hula dancer and graduated as an ‘olapa from Halau Hula o Maiki. She enjoyed learning and sharing her knowledge on all things Hawai’i. 

To honor her, we will celebrate her life on Tuesday March 27 2018 at Borthwick Mortuary Maunakea Chapel. Visitation begins at 5pm services at 6pm fellowship to follow. Aloha attire.

Sixth Grade Geological Adventure on Garden Isle

Culminating their study of the geography, geology, flora and fauna of Hawaii, Sacred Hearts Academy Class of 2024 spent the three days leading up to Spring Break exploring the Island of Kauai. The group of ladies have a busy itinerary including stops at the National Tropical Botanical Gardens, Waimea Canyon, Haraguchi Rice Mill, Waioli Museum, Kauai Museum, and a trip to Hanalei Town.

Academy students will return to 'Oahu from Kauai Island to 'Oahu this Friday filled with not only the rich

experiences of what nature has to offer but also with memories of a lifetime sharing them with their friends, teachers and chaperones.

Emma Pavich Counsels Counselors

Emma Pavich, a Domestic Violence Action Center contracted trainer and

licensed clinical social worker in the States of California and Hawaii, presented a half day workshop to 10 counselors and administrators from various private schools on Thursday, March 8th.

This workshop on "Intimate Partner Violence" helped give perspective on working with children and families suffering the harm of abuse. Participants learned to understand the complex issues impacting families and explore strategies for addressing this sensitive topic in confidential ways.
